Paul Westacott

The exploration of relationships is fundamental to my work. The elements of color, form, line and repetition make up my visual vocabulary and every piece invites a dialogue. Like characters in a play or film these elements can be quarrelsome or agreeable, in conflict or harmony, push forward or shyly recede. Whatever their condition, the drama is always to be found in their relationship to each other.

My recent work reflects the inclusion of algorithmic processes in my practice. The introduction of semi autonomous programming into my work has been challenging, energizing and creatively liberating. It has opened new avenues to explore ideas about the dynamics of chance and intent, control and chaos, and what it means to be a visual artist in the digital age
