Zofia Kostyrko-Edwards
As an artist and a conceptual designer I strive to reconnect — reinvent — recycle my inner and outer world. My works utilize and combine pastel, oil and digital paintings with custom printing and hand embroidery; soft and hard sculpture, environmental installations and mixed media used to create portraits, unique objects and environments.
My current works tackle some of today’s most challenging and controversial human rights and environmental degradation issues. In the Art Couture series I combine clothing items: a universal, primary form of personal protection, privacy, comfort, individual expression and social status with both beautiful and shocking imagery of the animals and humans, and human behaviors that create chaos worldwide. My creative intent is to break through willful blindness and social inertia to recognize the urgency and need to change human indifference and destructive behaviors.
