Why You Must See the New stARTup Exhibition at Jeff King & Co.
For our second exhibition in the beautiful new office building of Jeff King & Co, our new Art Advisor and Curator, Josefin Lundahl, proposed “de/re/construct,” an intriguing show calling for deeply textured pieces on exposed brick walls, a larger than life canvas piece tacked up in the long entry, a constellation of reflective cell-like sculptures spanning one wall, and a sprawling site specific tape drawing on the other. Featured artists are Barbara Downs, Robin Denevan, Jennifer Kaufman, and Carrie Ann Plank.
It sounded ambitious, but King said yes immediately to Lundahl’s vision for selecting artists and works that highlight his passion for doing exceptional building work and living with art. Good art.
The show launched to great success and is available to view, by appointment only, and only until the end of the year.
Here’s why you should call Josefin for a special tour of the space…
1. This office feels like it could be your home
Viewing art in this rustic light-filled space you almost forget it’s a commercial building as you breeze through the exposed brick entry into an open room with a cathedral ceiling, unfettered trusses, and long sunny skylights. You imagine yourself living effortlessly in this warm open space with rough surfaces complemented by clean white walls and glass doors. You’d nothing could distract you from the upward view, but the works in the “de/re/construct” ground the space adding richness and layers to the room.
Jeff King’s team makes impeccable building look easy, and the casual elegance of this interior gives the viewer a sense of how each piece might look in their own home or office.
2. All of the works are for sale including the installations!
There are so many wonderful pieces that draw the viewer in, from top selling artist Robin Denevan’s landscapes to Jennifer Kaufman’s deceptively playful tape sketches, Carrie Ann Plank’s woodcut prints, and Barbara Down’s spare but emotion packed large scale works.
There is something here for every type of home including Carrie Ann Plank’s multi-piece installation, “Strata”, and Jennifer Kaufman’s wall-size tape drawing, which can also be purchase and modified to fit the buyer or interior designer’s specifications.
3. These works will only be on view together for a limited time.
It’s hard to imagine that this beautiful combination of artwork isn’t already a permanent collection in some thoughtfully curated space. But, it is only an exhibition, after all, with limited time to see it all together and consider these works together or individually in this unique setting.
About Josefin’s curatorial skill and the level of work created by these artists, Jeff King & Company said this, “We’re extremely impressed with the thought that Josefin put into curating the exhibition. She took the time to understand not only the business of Jeff King & Company but also our values—and selected artists whose work resonates with that. We couldn’t be happier with the artwork each artist selected to show in our office. We’re definitely on board for another exhibition in the Spring!”
